Layers are always in for shoulder season, but this year we’re seeing how far we can take it! These first spring days have been unpredictable, with temperatures jumping from chilly 35 degree mornings to beautiful 65 day afternoons, so doubling up is especially important for keeping comfortable the entire day. These pieces can be combined to create a full outfit that can transition your looks with ease!

Morning

For the chilly mornings, consider wrapping up for your commute in capes that can easily be worn open when the temperature warms up, light gloves and scarves that can fit in your bag but will keep the brisk early air off of your skin, and knee high socks and legwarmers that can add an extra layer of protection to your legs!

Midday

Selecting light layers and a good underpinning is key for when you need to lose some of the heavier layers due to the midday spring sun! Light tanks paired with boleros and airy blouses over straight leg bottoms paired with ballet flats is a uniform that will keep you cool while still reminding you it’s not 85 degrees just yet!

Evening

Evenings see the temperature dropping again, though with the sun setting later each day twilight feels warmer than the bitter mornings. When you head home to change for an evening out, think of incorporating light long sleeves as a base layer, a maxi skirt or slip dress to hold onto the feeling of the warm days, and chunky cardigans plus booties to fight the rapidly dropping temps. Just make sure you have your coat on hand from the morning by the time the sun dips below the horizon!
