The city felt unusually quiet as fashion week unfolded this year – perhaps the sub zero “feels like” temperatures tempered excitement about fall/winter trends for the future? Despite the unusual calm in the streets, the runways teemed with an edgy, crackling energy. The stand out theme to me was the exploration of the dichotomy between clean delicate pieces with fine details and messy overwhelming undone textures – ruffles with delicate brooches, tidy underlayers with statement accessories, and sheer clothing and large capes evoking a sense of naughtiness. This month, we are focusing on outfits that utilize these trends, and help bring a bit of the “2000’s it girl” aesthetic into your life that seemed to reign supreme on the runway.

The 2000s Party Girl

Metallic clothes with messy statement necklaces and distressed cardigans take you back to the 2000s in NYC.

The Sophisticated Drama Queen

Sheer layers with dramatic capes create drama and a little “wink wink nudge nudge”.

The Referential Trendsetter

Ruffles, brooches, and skinny scarves are all seen in this woman’s wardrobe, perhaps with some taken from her grandmother’s closet.
